Anonymous Testing & Privacy
We take every step to ensure the privacy of your results. We periodically delete all results from our servers.
We wish to provide you with anonymous testing however we are currently limited by lab procedures & regulatory requirements. Our partner labs require identification as part of their check-in procedures. We are also legally required to contact you in the event of a positive test.
If you want semi-anonymous testing, do not provide your health card number. However, you will have to pay for the assay out-of-pocket. Your results will not be associated with your health card in OLIS and other healthcare providers involved in your care cannot access these results. PLEASE DO NOT PRESENT YOUR HEALTH CARD when prompted for ID at the lab and instead use a different issued ID.
If you provide a health card number (OHIP) your results will be uploaded to the Ontario Laboratories Information System (OLIS) and indexed. While it is not guaranteed that your primary care provider will explicitly check for your results it is still possible for them to do so.
TeleTest does not offer fully anonymous testing. All positive test results for gonorrhea, chlamydia, HIV, syphilis, hepatitis B and C are reported to public health with your name and contact information, even if they are not associated with your health card. These results are not reported to your family doctor, however. If you wish to access anonymous STI testing, please visit a local anonymous STI clinic and do not use TeleTest.
TeleTest does not mail you anything except under the following circumstances:
(a) You select oral or rectal swabs - a package will be mailed to your home in discreet Amazon packaging.
(b) You have a positive result and after failing to respond to email and/or phone calls after 5 separate attempts, we are obligated to mail you a letter notifying you to contact our office. No information is disclosed in the letter.
